We know your job title; what do you do in that role?
My main priorities are event planner, social media manager, and alumni coordinator. One of my favorite professional quotes I learned a long time ago is: “Other duties as assigned.” At the SCF Foundation, we are a collaborative team and do a little of everything.
Where did you go to school?
I received my Bachelor’s & MBA from Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, FL
Describe the State College of Florida in 3 words.
Supportive, Collaborative, Inspiring
Why do you work at the State College of Florida Foundation?
I was a first-generation college student, and without scholarships, I would not have graduated with my Bachelor’s degree or my MBA. I work at the SCFF because I want to make a difference in my community, for one student or hundreds.
What is your favorite place?
Charleston, SC
Tell us a fun fact about you!
I grew up in a large family, and my grandparents are deaf, so I am conversationally fluent in American Sign Language.
What is the one piece of advice you would give alumni?
Your degree doesn’t define you. You can choose your future. If you go to school to work in Corporate America and then decide you hate your job (like me), you can change your field, and it’s never too late. THINK: What are you good at? What do you enjoy? Start there.
What is one thing you want donors to know about the SCF Foundation?
Unrestricted funds are one of the hardest things to raise money for, and they are also the number one need in the Foundation. We use unrestricted funds to meet the greatest needs of the moment.
Anything else you want to add?
I am currently looking for alumni to interview; if you are interested, please email me at RogersJ@SCF.edu
